The name "Rohilkhand" literally means "Lands of the Rohillas". The Rohillas were a Pashtun tribe living in what is now Afghanistan, who migrated in large numbers to the region in the early 18th century. These days, their culture and presence is seen more greatly in towns like Bareilly, Moradabad and Rampur.
