English: A View from the South / There are few castles in Wales , which can boast a more spectacular location than Carreg Cennen. Its ruins crowning a remote crag above the river Cennen in the Breacon Beacons National Park,
The present stone castle dates from around 1300, when it was built as an English outpost by one of King Edward I's barons - John Giffard .
The castle is protected to the south by the 325 ft (100m) cliff face ,and rock-cut ditches to the west. To the north and east there is an outer courtyard, barbican , gatehouse, drawbridge and pits / SN 672.186 / 7969
