  1. DEFINISJON

Den norske kirkes våpen, fastsatt ved Kronprinsregentens resolusjon av 28. september 1990, er: I rødt et gull kløverbladkors lagt over to økser med gull skaft og sølv blad som vender utover. Våpenet omfatter enhver heraldisk form.
Den norske kirkes flagg, fastsatt ved Kronprinsregentens resolusjon av 28. september 1990, er: I rødt et gult kløverbladkors lagt over to økser med gult skaft og hvite blad som vender utover. Flagget har rektangulær form i forholdet 1:1,2.

Våpenets motiv er det merke som lenge har vært oppfattet som fellesmerke for Den norske kirke, Olavsmerket. Den vanligste tolkning er at det universelle kristne symbol - korset - er lagt over norske kristne symboler - Hellig-Olavs martyrøkser.
