Summary
DescriptionLourmarin - Place de l'Eglise - L'Eglise de Lourmarin and a fountain.jpg
This is the village of Lourmarin in The Luberon (one of France's National Parks). The village of Lourmarin is set in magnificent surroundings and radiates peace and serenity. It has spread on the lush plain around a small promontory at the top of which are a church and belfry. Everything works towards its beauty. The village is best seen from the road to Lauris: the castle emerging from dense vegetation, the Protestant temple, and finally the village itself, rising up on terraces to meet the church tower, with the added grace of Mediterranean vegetation.
Photos from a walk around the French village of Lourmarin.
The first building built by the monks of Saint-André de Villeneuve dates from the late 12th century. It remains today only a few traces in the north wall.
In the 16th century the castle owners to add the chapel of the lord, the last two bays of the aisle . The church is more or less abandoned during the wars of religion, and revived after the repeal of the Edict of Nantes.
His plan is simple: a nave and a Gothic aisle rather short (see map). In 1839 the steeple was replaced by a steeple which was competitive with the Temple. The choir was added in 1851 and the vestry in 1872
The interior was recently restored. The coating on the walls beige highlights stone arches, ribs and pillars. The church is simple: no decorations, if we except the faux marble altar glittering with gold. A note, a font that would come from a funerary monument that recognizes the wolf, (coat of arms of lords of Lourmarin) and a statue of Christ on the cross in the 17th century collateral
