Description

Lora Koenig, a physical scientist at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center and the Deputy Project Scientist for the NASA Operation IceBridge mission, wrote a note on an Operation IceBridge postcard to colleagues at Goddard on Nov. 25, 2010, while waiting to fly from McMurdo Station in West Antarctica to the start of a science traverse from the WAIS Divide camp.

The traverse was the first of two field campaigns to study snow accumulation on the West Antarctic Ice Sheet and tie the information back to larger-scale data collected from satellites. Credit: NASA/Lora Koenig
