Sūrbahār (plucked lute)[1] Kolkata, West Bengal, India, 1882-1905 Teakwood, silver, sambar deer antler, wire Damondar Adhikari, maker Carved from wood to resemble a gourd resonator, the resonating chamber amplifies sound. “Sympathetic strings” are not usually plucked but vibrato along with the plucked strings. Acquired through the generosity of the Robert J. Ulrich and Diane Sillik Fund 2014.15.2
