DescriptionSchuler Construction de la cathédrale 77.998.0.5208 mb.jpg | Français : L'oeuvre restitue le chantier de la cathédrale à la fin du XIIIe siècle, à l'époque où l'on élevait la façade occidentale. Le nouvel édifice, dont le chantier avait été lancé à la fin du XIIe siècle, sert de toile de fond à une scène mettant en jeu une multitude de personnages, dans une composition pyramidale. La figure centrale est Erwin de Steinbach, qui présente son plan à l'évêque Conrad, tandis que sa fille Sabine, un maillet à la main, assiste à l'entretien. Des moines et des valets apportant une collation accompagnent ce trio. Tout autour de ce groupe central, manoeuvres, tailleurs de pierre et dessinateurs grouillent et s'affairent, certains tirant des chariots de pierres taillées, d'autres travaillant sur la toiture de la nef ou les échafaudages de la façade. A l'avant-plan droit, un personnage à cheval manie un fouet, tandis qu'un petit chien s'amuse à poursuivre un crochet attaché au bout d'une corde que tire un ouvrier, mêlant l'anecdotique et l'humour à l'histoire mythique de la construction du monument. |
