Summary

Description
English: Translation of the Japanese text: Located at the eastern end of the Sayama Hills, this mountain was once known as Hakkokuyama (mountain of eight countries) because it offered a view of the mountains of eight provinces: Suruga, Kai, Izu, Sagami, Hitachi, Kozuke, Shimotsuke, and Shinano. During the Kamakura period, the Kamimichi Highway, ran north and south through the vicinity. In the third year of the Genko era (1333), Nitta Yoshisada, who had raised an army in Kozuke to overthrow the Kamakura Shogunate, traveled south along the same road and fought against the Shogunate forces at Kotesashi-ga-hara, but was forced to fight a hard battle. He finally won the battle at Bunbegawara (present-day Fuchu City, Tokyo), and it is said that Yoshisada stayed here temporarily and raised a flag on the mound, which is why it came to be called Shogunzuka. The "Shinpen Musashi no Kuni Fudoki-ko" (New Musashi Province Topography), compiled in the Edo period, states, "There is a mound with two horns here. It is called Shogunzuka." The book also states that this mound is called Fujizuka, or that it may be an ancient mound.
