DeutschKhambhat (formerly Cambay) is in Gujarat, in Anand District at the inland end of the Gulf of Khambhat.

Cambay was a major port by the latter part of the first millennium CE and remained so well into the second; Marco Polo mentions it as an important stop on the Maritime Silk Road around 1300. Its importance has since declined: the bay has silted up and other ports have developed.

[edit | edit source]The nearest airport is at Ahmedabad, approximately 120 km away from Khambhat.
The nearest major railway station is Anand Junction, approximately 55 km away.

- 1 Gulf of Khambhat viewpoint. Visit this only after checking the tidal information for the seashore, as the gulf has pretty much silted up.
- Kandwal Lake.
- 2 Jami Mosque. The 14th-century mosque is built with peculiar archaeological designs and structures borrowed from the Jain temples built at that time. It is one of the earliest mosques built in Gujarat. There is a tomb of Umar bin Ahmad al-Kazaruni within the complex.
- Sikotar Maa Temple, Ralej.
- Stambheshwar Mahadev Temple,. which submerges on a high tide day.
- 3 Neja Palm Avenue. for a picturesque view of palm trees adorning the road.
- Ghushmeshwar Mahadev Temple. comprises shrines of all deities and a Nataraj artifact made out of stone.
- 4 Madala Lake and Stepwell. 8AM-11PM. A historical stepwell is located on an island in the lake. The lake is surrounded by a walkway and has children's play area. Free.
- 5 Khambhat Fort (Khas Mahal). an old palatial house built from wood and having beautiful colored glass panelled windows. Not open to public but can be seen from closed gate.
- 6 108 Sthambhan Parshwanath Jain Temple.
- 7 Lunej #1 Oil Rig and ONGC Museum, Near Lunej village. A small museum on the site of India's first oil rig from which history of petroleum started.
- 8 Teen Darwaja (Three Gates). the historic gate built in 1891 by the Nawab of erstwhile Cambay State
