Karaye is a local government historic town and the administrative headquarters of Karaye Local Government Area in Kano State, in the northwestern part of the state and serves as the seat of the Karaye Emirate, one of the traditional emirates created in 2019 from the old Kano Emirate.

Karaye is a one of the oldest Hausa settlements in what is now northern Nigeria. Historically, it was a small but influential Hausa kingdom before the Sokoto Jihad in the 19th century. The town later became part of the Kano Emirate under the Fulani caliphate. In 2019, town of Karaye gained prominence again when it was made the capital of the Karaye Emirate, one of four new emirates created by the Kano State Government.
