Grinda Island was purchased by the City of Stockholm in 1944 to provide recreational opportunities for its residents, leading to the establishment of a cabin village, a camping area, and summer camps in repurposed military barracks. It remains a popular destination in the Stockholm Archipelago, celebrated for its nature reserve, coastal scenery, and easy accessibility. The trail begins at the 1 South Grinda ferry stop, where you will find an official 1 SAT sign positioned right next to the pier. From the start, the trail winds through a narrow forest path, eventually leading hikers to a bench that is perfect for a moment of rest.
As the hiking trail continues north, it passes a 2 swimming area and a 3 simple bbq area, soon reaching the restaurant at 1 Grinda Wärdshus. In this central hub, you will also find a 1 sauna, a 2 bakery, a small 1 grocery store, and the 1 guest harbour, which offers kayak rentals. Heading further north along a smooth gravel road, you’ll reach 2 Grinda Camping. This area provides water access and several 4 barbecue areas. Nearby is the 2 Grinda North ferry stop, though it is not in operation, as of March 2026, while the northwest corner of the island offers another 2 swimming area.
The trail then turns east, following the coastline through the forest along a path that becomes slightly more rugged yet remains enjoyable. This section leads to the eastern part of Grinda, passing a barbecue area and one of the island's high points at 5 Grinda high point. Finally, the trail loops back to the pier by passing through the 6 cabin village, where visitors can rent cabins for an overnight stay.
