I've lived in Brixton, London for about five years, so I know the place pretty well. I also spend a lot of time drinking in Shoreditch, which isn't as poncy as it sounds. I think I know London reasonably well, so I've emitted a few pearls of wisdom on to this site. There's still a hell of a lot of work to do before it becomes a reliable guide, but hopefully more helpful people will get onto it soon.

I've recently visited Venice, Porec, Dubrovnik and Ljubljana and added a few thoughts.

The London Underground can be a overwhelming at first, and it's difficult to see what kind of area you will find when you come blinking out in the daylight.

Below is a set of links from each tube station to the nearest area article on Wikivoyage. The assumption is the station will be in the area or a five minute walk away, anything longer will be stated. Unforunately there will be a lot of deadends, but hopefully these will be filled in time (by locals).

• Angel leads on to the south end of Upper Street, Islington
• Aldgate East station is in the Whitechapel area

• Balham station sits in the area south of Clapham, called Balham.
• Bank/Monument station is in the City of London near the Bank of England. It's a short walk to Liverpool Street, Canon Street and Mansion House.
• Borough station is part of Southwark.
• Brixton station is in the heart of Brixton and just a short train/bus ride to Herne Hill or Camberwell.

• Clapham Common station at the centre of Clapham and is closest to most of the local bars and restaurants
• Clapham South
• Clapham North

• Elephant and Castle station is in the area formerly known as Newington, but now simply 'Elephant and Castle'.
• Euston station is near to the Bloomsbury area.

• Finsbury Park station is in the Finsbury Park area

• Green Park station takes you into Mayfair

• Highbury & Islington leads on to the north end of Upper Street, Islington

• King's Cross St. Pancras station is in the King's Cross area, and connects with nearly half of all the London Underground lines.
• Kennington station is the northern part of Kennington.

• London Bridge station is the nearest to Borough Market, and sits in Southwark, an area also known as Bermondsey. It's conveniently close to South Bank.
• Liverpool Street station is part of Bishopsgate, and is a ten minute walk to Brick Lane and fifteen minutes to Shoreditch.

• Oval station is Kennington and is very near the famous cricket ground of the same name.
• Oxford Circus station lands you bang in the middle of the West End on the crossing of Oxford Street and Regent Street.
• Old Street station leads into the area known as Shoreditch, Hoxton or Old Street.

• Pimlico is the nearest station to Tate Britain

• Southwark (pronounced "Suthuck") is the nearest station to Tate Modern
• Stockwell station is in Stockwell. This is also a 5 minute bus/tube ride away from Brixton.

• Tooting Bec station exits at the northern part of Tooting
• Tooting Broadway station is in the southern part of Tooting

• Vauxhall
• Victoria leads to Westminster and St James's.

• Waterloo station is a good starting point to start explore South Bank and is near to London Eye and Royal Festival Hall.
• Warren Street station is a short walk from Great Portland Street, Euston Square, Euston and Goodge Street tubes stations.
• Whitechapel station is in the Whitechapel area.
