It overlooks the Vikos Gorge at an altitude of 770 meters, and is located on the borders of the Vikos-Aoos National Park.[2] It was formerly known as Vetsiko (Greek: Βετσικό) or Vitsiko (Greek: Βιτσικό). Its name was officially changed to Vikos in 1955, although the old names are still in common use.[3]
