Meta-Wiki has a small active community. When a normal user requires the assistance of an administrator or bureaucrat for some particular task, it is not always easy to find one. This page helps users find one when they need one; asking specific admins directly via their talk pages is one way to elicit a fast response. It is only for assistance required at Meta-Wiki, help for other wikis needs to be requested at those wikis.

I request an evaluation of the situation involving the user page initially created on ptwiki and later deleted for violating the local user page policy.
After the deletion, the page was recreated with the same content as a global user page, apparently to circumvent the decision and make the page reappear on ptwiki, the only project where the user is active. This practice contradicts part of the global user page policy, according to GUP#Content, which states that the content of the global user page should not be considered inappropriate in the projects where it is displayed. I have requested a speedy deletion and sysop has removed it, the problem no longer exists. ~~Sid~~ 05:45, 9 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Filter 246

[edit]

I feel like the best action taken by this filter would be to disallow the action, since most edits caught by this filter are actually malicious enough to be disallowed completely. Faster than Thunder (talk) 19:34, 9 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Faster than Thunder: Please check carefully, there are so many false positives from this filter and they are not problematic. Thanks for your passion but I personally believe that you need to observe and learn more about filters before suggesting creations or changes to filter, for example at the section above, you did not demonstrate that you are familiar with filters. Competence is required. aqurs 🍧 20:35, 9 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Faster than Thunder: This is not done, given the number of false positives. Please note that abuse filters are heavily monitored by existing sysops - and I think if we could prevent problematic translations that easily, we would!
@Aqurs1: Please consider the tone of your response. It is strongly discouraged to cite w:en:WP:CIR, as it is inferring an editor is incompetent, which is not necessary or likely true here over two relatively unconsequential mistakes. --Ferien (talk) 20:44, 9 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

New edit filter: Very short translation creation

[edit]

Disallow actions that meet the following rule:

!("confirmed" in user_groups) & (new_size < 30) & (page_title rlike "/.{2,3}$")

These obviously malicious translations are common, so this filter would disallow those actions. Faster than Thunder (talk) 20:57, 9 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Why use page_title instead of page_namespace? – Phương Linh (T · C · CA · L · B) 23:31, 9 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
Checking the suffix of the page title is impossible to do with page_namespace, and titles that match the regex are [nearly] always translations. I agree with Pppery, filters only need to be hidden if they target extreme cases like LTAs, not drive-by vandals. Faster than Thunder (talk) 05:06, 10 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
My question to you is similar to one I had last time – what's the point of having a filter set to disallow now that you've posted the conditions in public. Please, email a sysop next time you want a filter implemented. //shb (tc) 23:57, 9 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
This filter isn't targeting suffisticated filter-dodging LTAs, it's targeting drive-by vandals, so it would be fine for a filter for this to be public IMO. * Pppery * it has begun 00:49, 10 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Request for patroller rights

[edit]

Hello, I have been patrolling on this wiki for around three weeks now, reverting vandalism, nonsense and inappropriate content and requesting page deletions. I have also reported several vandals on this page. Therefore, I would like to be added to the patroller user group in order to expedite the fight against vandalism, as I am experienced with rollback on dewiki, enwiki, and dewikinews. I have read through the applicable guidelines. Regards, --Ankermast (talk) 07:29, 10 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
