Beijing/Daxing

Daxing District (大兴区; Dàxīngqū) is in the south of Beijing.

Daxing is a large, flat district of farmland and industrial parks stretching from the 4th Ring Road down to the border with Hebei. It has few of the historic sights that draw visitors to other parts of Beijing, and most people who come here are passing through on the way to the airport or attending a trade event.

Two places account for nearly all visitor interest. Beijing Daxing International Airport (PKX) opened in 2019 at the far southern edge of the district, and its Zaha Hadid-designed terminal is a sight in its own right. In the opposite corner, Beijing E-Town (北京亦庄; Běijīng Yìzhuāng), formally the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (BDA) is a state-level development zone built around robotics, biotechnology and vehicle manufacturing. In the summer, Daxing hosts the annual World Robot Conference, which is barely promoted outside China but draws an international crowd anyway of people who have sought it out on their own curiosity.

The district is also known within Beijing for its watermelons, celebrated at a festival each spring.

For E-Town, take Line 17. You can board at Workers' Stadium in central Beijing and stay on all the way to the southern end. Change at Ciqu for the Yizhuang line if you are heading for the convention centre or anywhere in the core of the development zone.

The rest of the district is served piecemeal, and there is no line running its length: getting between the airport, Daxing New Town and E-Town by rail means going back towards the centre to change.

• The Daxing line extends Line 4 south from Fengtai District through Daxing New Town (Huangcun), the district's administrative centre, to Tiangongyuan beyond the 6th Ring Road.
• The Daxing Airport Express runs from Caoqiao (change for Lines 10 and 19) to the airport in about 20 minutes, with one intermediate stop at Daxing Xincheng. It has its own distance-based fares rather than the standard subway fare, and transfers to and from it are not free.
• The Yizhuang line runs from Songjiazhuang into E-Town, about 37 minutes end to end. Despite being an extension of Line 5 in concept, the two do not physically connect so change at Songjiazhuang.

Beijing Daxing International Airport (PKX) is at the southern edge of the district, about 46 km from the city centre.

Within E-Town, the Yizhuang T1 tram links the industrial parks and the convention centre with the Yizhuang line at Rongchang Dongjie. It is a local circulator rather than a way in or out.

• 39.7419116.3251 China Printing Museum (中国印刷博物馆; Zhōngguó Yìnshuā Bówùguǎn), 25 North Xinghua Road, Huangcun (黄村兴华北路25号) (in Daxing New Town, beside the Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication). 09:00-17:00, last entry 16:00, closed Mondays. Traces the history of printing in China, from early woodblock techniques and movable type through to industrial presses. A quiet, thorough museum that gets few foreign visitors; displays are mostly captioned in Chinese. Free.  (updated Feb 2026)
• 39.769132116.4774522 Nanhaizi Park (南海子公园; Nánhǎizǐ Gōngyuán). 06:00-21:00 (summer), 07:00-20:00 (winter). Beijing's largest wetland park, on the site of an imperial hunting ground used by the Yuan, Ming and Qing courts. Pleasant for a walk, and the setting for the Milu Yuan deer park. • 39.77605116.452243 Milu Yuan (麋鹿苑; Mílù Yuàn, Père David's Deer Park) (inside Nanhaizi Park). 09:00-16:00, closed Mondays. Part deer park, part research centre, holding the world's largest population of milu, or Père David's deer. The species was unknown to Western science until a French missionary saw the imperial herd here in the 19th century; the Chinese population then died out entirely, and the animals here descend from stock returned from England in the 1980s. Reservations are required and are made through WeChat. Free.  (updated Feb 2026)

• World Robot Conference (世界机器人大会; Shìjiè Jīqìrén Dàhuì), Beiren Etrong International Exhibition & Convention Center (北人亦创国际会展中心), 6 Rongchang East Street (荣昌东街6号), Yizhuang (Rongchang Dongjie station on the Yizhuang line, then a 200 m walk; the T1 tram also has a stop at the convention centre itself). five days, usually in August; dates shift each year, so check before booking travel. Billed as the world's largest robotics event, held annually since 2015 and based in E-Town since 2016. The exhibition is worth attending as a general visitor. Recent editions have filled the halls with humanoid robots, robot dogs, industrial arms and live demonstrations. Admission charged; tickets are sold online and at door. (updated Aug 2026)
