Bhatpara

Bhatpara (Bengali: ভাটপাড়া Bhāṭpāṛā, Hindi: भाटपाड़ा Bhāṭpāṛā) is a heritage town in North 24 Parganas.

Understand

Earlier known as Bhattapalli (ভট্টপল্লী Bhoṭṭopollī), Bhatpara is known for its rich tradition of Sanskrit learning, and was one of Bengal's major Sanskrit-learning centre. Many Bengali pundits came from Bhatpara.

Besides Sanskrit learning, Bhatpara is also known for its British-era jute industry, with legacy jute mills at Kankinara (কাঁকিনাড়া Kānkināṛā), which is not to be confused with the Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh.
