The Bhojpur (भोजपुर) region covers the western part of Bihar, India.

[edit | edit source]Although most people of Bhojpur understand Hindi, which is the lingua franca of Bihar, the mother tongue of the region is Bhojpuri (भोजपुरी Bhojpurī), which is more closely related to Maithili than Standard Hindi.

[edit | edit source]Chhath is the biggest festival of the Bhojpuri region. It usually takes place from late October to early November. Chhath involves worshipping and thanking the sun god Surya for bestowing the riches of life on earth.
