Understand

[edit | edit source]

Bozhou is a city where traditional Chinese medicine and local history are still important parts of everyday life. Visitors can explore old streets, historical buildings, and places connected to famous people from ancient China.

History

[edit | edit source]

Bozhou has a long history and was known as Qiao in ancient times. It is especially famous as the hometown of Cao Cao, an important figure during the Three Kingdoms period. Many members of Cao Cao's family also came from this area, and their history can still be explored through local historical sites.

Because of its location, Bozhou was once an important military and trading centre. The city developed through trade along the Guo River, but it also experienced wars and periods of decline. Today, visitors can still discover traces of this history in the city's old streets and historical attractions.

Orientation

[edit | edit source]

Many of Bozhou's main historical attractions are in Qiaocheng District, the central urban area. Visitors interested in history can explore the Flower Opera Tower, Hua Zu An, and Cao Cao's Underground Military Tunnel.

Staying near the city centre can make it easier to visit several attractions during a short trip.

Get around

[edit | edit source]

Bozhou is a large city with one urban district and three counties. For most visitors, buses and taxis are the main ways to travel around the city. Walking is also a good option in the historic centre of Qiaocheng District.

By bus

[edit | edit source]

Local buses connect residential areas, railway stations and other parts of Bozhou. They are generally a convenient choice for visitors travelling on a budget.

Visitors can use Amap (高德地图) or Baidu Maps (百度地图) to check bus routes, stops and estimated travel times. These apps are particularly useful because some bus information may not be available in English.

Bus routes and operating hours may change, so check the latest information before travelling.

By taxi or ride-hailing

[edit | edit source]

Taxis and ride-hailing services are useful for travelling between railway stations, hotels and attractions that are not close to bus stops.

DiDi (滴滴出行) is a commonly used ride-hailing platform in China. Visitors can also use ride-hailing services through Chinese map or payment apps.

If you do not speak Chinese, showing the driver your destination in Chinese characters can help avoid misunderstandings.

On foot or by bicycle

[edit | edit source]

Walking is a good way to explore the historic centre of Qiaocheng District. Attractions such as the Flower Opera Tower, Hua Zu An and Cao Cao's Underground Military Tunnel are located in the older part of the city.

Walking between nearby attractions also gives visitors a chance to explore local streets, traditional buildings and small shops.

Shared bicycles may be available in some urban areas. Check availability and payment requirements through the relevant mobile app before using one.

Between districts and counties

[edit | edit source]

Bozhou also includes Guoyang, Mengcheng and Lixin counties. These areas are farther from the central urban district, so visitors should plan their journeys separately.

Intercity buses and road transport are options for travelling between the counties and central Bozhou. Check current services and departure points before travelling.

For attractions outside the urban area, a taxi or hired car may be more convenient, especially when public transport connections are limited.
