DeutschBrowning is a town in Northwestern Montana. It is the headquarters for the Blackfeet Indian Reservation. The townspeople are proud of their heritage and active in the recognition and rights of Native Americans.

The Blackfeet Indian Reservation is home to the Blackfeet Nation. The reservation is huge, encompassing an area of over 3,000 square miles. It borders Glacier National Park to the west and the Canadian province Alberta to the north. While the town has 1,000 people, the Blackfeet Nation has 16,500 enrolled members.

[edit | edit source]Browning is near the intersection of U.S. Highway 89 (US-89) and U.S. Highway 2 (US-2).
By train
[edit | edit source]- 1 Browning Station, Heart Butte Rd (south of Hwys 2/89). It is an unstaffed station. This is a seasonal stop open from October to April

The Empire Builder operates daily between Seattle/Portland and Chicago including stops at Spokane, Glacier National Park, Fargo, Saint Paul, and Milwaukee. The trains split into separate branches between Seattle and Spokane, and between Portland and Spokane, while operating as trains consisting of train cars from both branches between Spokane and Chicago.

As with most of Montana, you will need a car to get around. Some locations are within walking or biking distance of each other.

- Blackfeet Trail. 70 mile self-guided tour through the reservation. 15 historical markers with information about important sites along the route.

[edit | edit source]Several lodges and ranches nearby offer overnight stays for a more rustic experience. You will need to use a general search on the web to find these as the offerings can change yearly or seasonally.
