Calatagan

Calatagan is a municipality in Batangas.

The town derives from the Tagalog word latag, or "plain". Situated at on the tip of a peninsula that forms the western edge of Balayan Bay, it is known to have existed as early as the precolonial era as seen by archaeological excavations conducted in town.

It is home to about 60,000 people (census, 1 July 2024)

Nasugbu, the main town of the region, is 35 kilometres (22 mi) to the north. There is a highway and jeepneys travel it.

You can get around by tricycle, which is a common mode of transportation for short distances.

• 13.7713120.65251 Punta de Santiago Lighthouse, Barangay Bagong Silang (40 minutes through semi-rough road taking a jeepney from the town proper of Calatagan). Built in 1890, it is one of the earliest lighthouses that remain functional up to this date. Since its construction, no ship has ever ran aground within its vicinity.  (updated Oct 2026)
