Cap Vert-Thiès is one of the most important and populated areas of Senegal. It combines the country's capital and largest city, Dakar, with the historic coastal communities of the Cap-Vert Peninsula and the inland city of Thiès.
The region has a mixture of modern urban areas, traditional fishing communities, beaches, markets and historical sites. The Atlantic Ocean is an important part of the region's landscape and economy.
The western part of the region forms the Cap-Vert Peninsula, which extends into the Atlantic Ocean and contains Dakar. Thiès lies farther inland and is an important transport and commercial centre.

The rainy season brings most of the area's annual rainfall, while the dry season is generally sunnier and more suitable for sightseeing and beach activities.
