Castara is a bay and beach town in the northern part of Trinidad and Tobago, a Caribbean country.

Understand

[edit | edit source]

Castara is a seaside village on the leeward (north) coast of the island of Tobago, the smaller of the two islands in the twin-island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. Castara's economy is dependent primarily on fishing and agriculture, with tourism playing an increasingly important role since the 1990s. Tourism is also important, with small guesthouses, restaurants and holiday accommodations spread around the village and hillsides. Castara has two main beaches, Castara Bay and the smaller Heavenly Bay. The village is surrounded by forested hills and is close to the protected natural areas of Tobago.

Get in

[edit | edit source]

Castara can be reached by car from Scarborough (ferry terminal) or Crown Point (airport).

Taxis (and buses) are extremely difficult to get here so make sure you have your own car or a driver before entering.

Get around

[edit | edit source]

The town is very walkable. There is not much to do except relax on the beach and watch the frigate birds and pelicans.
