Cawsand

Cawsand (Cornish: Porthbugh) is one of twin villages (Kingsand being the other) on the Rame Peninsula in south-east Cornwall. Cawsand overlooks Plymouth Sound Cawsand is within Mount Edgcumbe Country Park.

The Rame Peninsula is considered part of the Forgotten Corner of Cornwall. It is called be "forgotten" because the area is effectively by-passed by visitors to Cornwall, it is over 50 miles away from the administrative headquarters of Cornwall at Truro.

There are frequent bus services to the city of Plymouth which is three miles to the north across Plymouth Sound. There is also a ferry service in the summer (from Cawsand Bay to Plymouth Hoe).

By car via the Torpoint ferry, by passenger ferry from Stonehouse in Plymouth to Cremyll and then by bus, or usually, by boat from the Barbican area of Plymouth.

A very pleasant day can be had by doing a round trip: getting across by boat from the barbican and then taking a bus to Cremyll (infrequent) and catching the ferry across the Tamar.

The beaches are not large but are interesting for children with an old lime kiln and numerous rock pools.

There are good walks into the Mount Edgecombe Estate towards Plymouth, and the other way to the wooded headland of Penlee Point and/or to Rame Head.
