Central Uganda is a region of Uganda surrounding the national capital, Kampala. It is the country's main administrative, commercial and economic centre and includes the historic kingdom of Buganda.

Central Uganda has a mixture of densely populated urban areas, rolling hills, farmland, wetlands and large freshwater lakes. Lake Victoria forms a major part of the region's southern landscape.

Kampala is the largest city and the main centre for government, business, education, healthcare and transport. Other important towns include Entebbe, Mukono, Jinja, Masaka and Mityana.

The region is predominantly inhabited by the Baganda, although people from many parts of Uganda live and work in the area. Luganda is widely spoken alongside English and other Ugandan languages.

Central Uganda was historically the heartland of the Kingdom of Buganda, one of the most influential traditional kingdoms in the Great Lakes region.

The kingdom developed a centralised political system under the Kabaka (king), with Buganda expanding its influence over surrounding areas during the 18th and 19th centuries.

European missionaries, traders and colonial administrators arrived in the region during the late 19th century. Buganda subsequently became an important part of the British colonial administration of Uganda.

Uganda gained independence from Britain in 1962, with Kampala becoming the national capital. Buganda's traditional institution continues to play an important cultural role in the region.

Entebbe International Airport (EBB ^IATA) is Uganda's principal international airport. It is located near Entebbe, southwest of Kampala.

Central Uganda is connected to other regions by major highways. Roads link Kampala with Jinja, Masaka, Mbarara, Fort Portal and northern Uganda.

Long-distance buses and minibuses connect Kampala and other towns with destinations throughout Uganda and neighbouring countries.

Lake Victoria provides water transport to some lakeside communities and islands, although services vary by destination.

• Uganda Wildlife Safaris Ltd, Kafu River Basin. a wildlife zone managed by Uganda Wildlife Safaris Ltd. This is a vast open area bordering the Kafu River. Nile Buffalo, Lelwel Hartebeest and Uganda Kob migrate through this area seeking grazing as Murchison Falls National Park, becomes overgrazed. In the Swamp, high grass, rolling hills see Nile buffalo, Lelwel Hartebeest, Uganda Kob, Bushbuck, Common Duiker, Oribi, Warthog.
