Cupar is a historic market town that is the largest settlement in Fife, in the north east of Scotland.

The historic town centre is the junction of Bonnygate and the Crossgate. This is where the town's mercat cross is located. Its shaft is original, and is supported by a unicorn. It dates from 1683.
In 2022, it had a population of 8,800.
Get in
[edit | edit source]- 1 Cupar railway station. It has 2 trains per hour from Edinburgh and about 1 per hour from Aberdeen via Dundee.
- Stagecoach X59 Express buses run hourly from Edinburgh and St Andrews.

By bus
[edit | edit source]- Moffat & Williamson run local buses services including the 68 town service which runs between 9AM and 5PM and the 64 which runs to St Andrews via Ceres.
- Stagecoach run other local services including the X59 to Hill of Tarvit.

[edit | edit source]- 1 Hill of Tarvit (1.5 mi (2.4 km) south of Cupar). Mar-Oct: Thu-Sun 11AM-4PM. An early 20th-century mansion house, designed by Robert Lorimer, run by the National Trust for Scotland with 40 acres (16 hectares) of gardens. Adult £14.
- 2 Monimail Tower. The tower is all that remain of the renaisance Palace of Monimail.
- 3 Scotstarvit Tower. tower grounds Apr - Sep. A 16th-century tower house in the care of Historic Scotland. The tower is not open to visitors in 2026, but you can explore the grounds. free.
- 4 Fife Folk Museum, High St, Ceres, KY15 5NF. Apr-Oct: Wed-Sun 10:30AM-4PM. Indoor and outdoor exhibitions of rural life. free.
- Cupar Museum and Heritage Centre (in the former house at the east end of the Cupar Railway Station Building). Apr-Oct: Wed-Sun 2-4:30PM. Museum with a permanent exhibition on the history of Cupar, and changing temporary exhibitions. free.
- 5 Crawford Priory, near Springfield. Ruins of a house built in 1758 and abandoned in 1968.
Do
[edit | edit source]- 1 Scottish Deer Centre. A zoological park focussed on deer, with some other animals and birds. Some reports suggest that the centre may have seen better days. "pay as you please", suggested adult £12.50.
- 2 Haugh Park. Town park with early 20th-century bandstand, mature trees, play park, picnic tables and toilets.
