Understand

[edit | edit source]
The underwater world of the Dahlak Archipelago

Dahlak (Dahlac) is part of the Dahlak archipelago and the surrounding waters. It started flourishing with its wildlife after it was abandoned during the war between Ethiopia and Eritrea. The fish there grew to great numbers because there were no people to catch them or swim near them during this war. It is a popular destination for Scuba diving.

The government saw a good tourist opportunity and took it upon itself to protect the park. You can see the remains of the shipwreck when you tour around.
