Daqing (大庆, Dàqìng) is a city in western Heilongjiang Province, northeastern China, best known for the Daqing Oilfield. The discovery of oil in 1959 transformed the area into one of China's major petroleum centers. The city is also a place to learn about the development of China's modern oil industry.
Daqing has a cold, dry winter and a warm to hot summer. Winters are long, with temperatures often falling well below freezing, while summer is considerably warmer and receives most of the city's annual precipitation. July is generally the wettest month. Visitors travelling in winter should bring warm clothing and check local weather and road conditions before setting out. Summer visitors may wish to bring rain protection.
Daqing's modern history began with the discovery of oil at the Songji-3 well on 26 September 1959. In early 1960, thousands of workers from across China arrived to develop the oilfield in a major campaign known as the Daqing oil battle. The oilfield became an important part of China's petroleum industry and gave rise to a city built around oil production.[1]
Daqing was officially established as a city in 1979. Its industrial development shaped its urban landscape and local identity. Visitors interested in this history can look for museums and sites connected with the oil industry and the workers who built it.[2]
Daqing's urban area extends from east to west across several districts. Sartu District is one of the city's main urban areas, while Ranghulu District lies to the west and is closely associated with the oil industry.
Petroleum-related museums and memorials are spread across different parts of the city rather than concentrated in one downtown area. Visitors interested in Daqing's oil history should check attraction locations and transport options before planning their itinerary.
Daqing Saertu Airport offers 4 domestic routes to Beijing, Shanghai Pudong, Guangzhou, and Chengdu, with stops at Dalian, Qingdao, Hangzhou, and Xian. The airport is conveniently located 20km from the city center. Airport shuttle buses connect the airport to the city center, though it is not a popular choice for travelers.

Buses from Harbin International Airport to the central bus terminal are very frequent; these take between 1-2 hours for the trip. Tickets cost around ¥80 per person.
From Harbin, Daqing can be reached by car via the Suiman Expressway (G10). The distance is about 150 km and the journey usually takes around 2 hours, depending on traffic conditions. Driving is a convenient option for travelers who want more flexibility when visiting places outside the city center.
Intercity carpooling and private-car services are available between Harbin, including Harbin Taiping International Airport, and Daqing. Some services offer door-to-door pickup and drop-off. Carpooling is suitable for travelers who want a more flexible alternative to buses, while private cars can be convenient for travelers with a lot of luggage or a tight schedule.
Daqing's main forms of public transportation are buses, taxis and ride-hailing services. Shared bicycles and electric bicycles are also available in some areas.
Ride-hailing services such as DiDi are widely available in Daqing. They can be a convenient option for travelers who prefer to book a car through a mobile app.
