Diving the Cape Peninsula and False Bay/Seal Island

The dive site Seal Island is an offshore site in the northern False Bay, near Cape Town in the Western Cape province of South Africa.

This is a place you go to see Great White sharks.

This site is not in a Marine Protected Area (2004). A permit is not required.

The island where the seals breed has been known as Seal Island for a long time, and is identified by that name on the official maps

Shallow - less than 2 m in the cage.

The island and offshore reefs are granite of the Peninsula pluton, and have the familiar rounded look of other similar outcrops.

Geology: Late Pre-Cambrian granite of the Peninsula pluton.

Boat dive with licensed Shark Cage Diving charter.

The site is about 12 km from Kalk Bay harbour, 14 km from Miller's Point, or 25 km from Harbour Island, Gordon's Bay

These dives are for one purpose only: to see sharks. Other fish may be attracted to the bait, but this is not what you do this dive to see.

Get in the cage, watch for sharks, get out again. Repeat if you have the time.

No significant hazards as you dive in the cage.

No special skills required. Cage dives are usually done on snorkel.

All you need is wet suit, weights, mask, snorkel and camera
