Dounan (斗南鎮) is a township that in Yunlin County, Taiwan.
Understand
[edit | edit source]The original name of Dounan is Taliwu (他里霧), a name taken from one of the branches of an aboriginal tribe. The development of Taliwu had started since the Ming Dynasty, when Koxinga came to Taiwan.

The township is accessible by train through the following TRA stations:
- 1 Dounan station (斗南車站), No. 2, Zhongshan Rd. The station was constructed in 1903, and is a mix of Japanese and Western-style architecture.
- 2 Shigui station (石龜車站). A small station that serves the local residents and is of little interest to visitors.

[edit | edit source]- 1 Former Dounan Police Precinct Building (斗南分局舊辦公廳舍), No. 170, Zhongshan Road, ☏ +886 55978391. An historic building that once served as the police headquarters for the area. There is not much to see or do inside, but the building is worth stopping by for a few photos.
Temples
[edit | edit source]- 2 Dounan Shun'an Temple (斗南順安宮), No. 126, Section 1, Chang'an Road, ☏ +886 55972541. 08:00-18:00. A larger complex, much of the inside is gilded and ornately decorated. A temple that is primarily dedicated to Mazu that was constructed in 1736.
- 3 Slta-vana Temple (寒林寺), 630 Zhongzheng Rd, ☏ +886 55973055. content=An ornate multi-storey Buddhist temple complex dedicated to the victims of the Japanese occupation of Taiwan.
Museums
[edit | edit source]- 4 Yunlin Environmental Education Pavilion (雲林環境教育館), Nanchang Road, ☏ +886 55962507. W Th Sa Su 10:00-18:00. As the name suggests, it's a small indoor educational exhibit of some of the flora and fauna of the surrounding area. Most of the material is provided in Chinese only.

Sport
[edit | edit source]- 2 Yunlin County Stadium (雲林縣政府體育場). A multi-use stadium that is able to hold 10,000 people.
- 3 Yunlin Dounan Field (雲林縣立斗南田徑場), No. 150號, Datong Road, ☏ +886 55962170. A small stadium beside a running track.
