Understand

[edit | edit source]

East Burkina Faso is a region of Burkina Faso in the eastern part of the country. It is known for its savanna landscapes, traditional communities, wildlife areas and proximity to the borders with Niger, Benin and Togo.

The region has historically been an important area for trade and movement between Burkina Faso and neighbouring countries. Its location makes it a crossroads between the Sahel to the north and the more humid areas of West Africa to the south.

History

[edit | edit source]

The eastern part of Burkina Faso has a long history of traditional kingdoms, local chiefdoms and communities. Trade routes connected settlements in the region with neighbouring areas of present-day Niger, Benin and Togo.

During the colonial period, the area became part of French West Africa and was incorporated into the territory that later became Burkina Faso.

Climate

[edit | edit source]

East Burkina Faso has a tropical savanna climate. The year is generally divided into a dry season and a rainy season. The dry season is typically hot, while the rainy season brings greener vegetation and improved conditions for agriculture. Temperatures can be particularly high during the hottest months.
