Fleetwood

Fleetwood is a seaside resort and fishing town, in Lancashire, in the North West of England.

Fleetwood is surrounded on 3 sides by water--the Irish Sea to the north and west and the River Wyre to the east.

Fleetwood is about 8 miles (13 km) from Blackpool.

Fleetwood is reached via A585 from Junction 3 of the M55.

Local bus services run from Blackpool and other local towns.

The Blackpool tramway runs between Fleetwood and Blackpool.

The nearest stations are Poulton-le-Fylde and Blackpool North. (Fleetwood no longer has a link to the national rail network.)

The closest airports are Liverpool John Lennon and Manchester.

The Blackpool Tramway runs through the town’s high street for quick access to shops, Highbury Stadium and the ferry across the Wyre River (colloquially known as ‘the Over Wyre’).

• Football: Fleetwood Town were relegated in 2024 and now play football in League Two, the fourth tier. Their Highbury Stadium (capacity around 5300) is on Park Avenue in town centre and on the tram route (get off at Stanley Road, turnstiles are around a 2 minute walk away). Be warned, the food there is expensive!

Fleetwood is one of the most dangerous towns in Lancashire, so below are some tips on staying safe:

• Stay WELL away from Chatsworth Avenue after dark
• The most common crime areas are Larkholme, the area surrounding the town’s Aldi Chatsworth (as mentioned above) and the Memorial Park
• The town has a police station in the north near Fleetwood Ferry tram stop

As of October 2026, Fleetwood has 5G from Three, and 4G from the other UK carriers.

The Blackpool & Fleetwood Tramway offers escape to the south including Cleveleys and Blackpool.

A passenger ferry operates between Fleetwood and Knott End across the mouth of the River Wyre, and gives access to villages such as Pilling, Preesall, Hambleton, Stalmine, Out Rawcliffe and Eagland Hill, which is popular among bird-watchers.
