
Fortune is a town of about 1,400 inhabitants (2016) in Southern Newfoundland, on the northern shore of the Burin Peninsula. The fishery as the biggest industry. For travellers it's most notable for the passenger ferries to Saint Pierre and Miquelon.

[edit | edit source]The name of the town is believed to have originated from the Portuguese word "fortuna" meaning "harbour of good fortune".
The main industry in Fortune is the ocean fishery which employs 400 residents. Species landed include cod, flounder, and haddock.
