Fujino (藤野) is a town in Kanagawa prefecture. A part of Sagamihara (相模原) City since 2007.
Understand
[edit | edit source]Fujino, popular with locals as an escape from Tokyo, is approximately one and a half hours away from Tokyo on the train. It has a population of approximately 11,500 inhabitants, and is nicknamed "Tibet of Kanagawa Prefecture" due to its topography, climate, and distance from civilization.
Tourist information site
[edit | edit source]The local tourist association still maintains a Japanese-only guide site, separate from Sagamihara City's.
Get in
[edit | edit source]It is quite easy to get the train from Tokyo.
Get around
[edit | edit source]With quite a few hills to trek up, walking is by far the most tasking way to get around. However, the views you'll receive in return are well worth it. Unless fluent in Japanese it may be hard to rent a vehicle.
See
[edit | edit source]Do
[edit | edit source]There are many hot springs in Fujino, and due to the lack of tourists the prices are much lower than the ones in major cities.
- Himetani Onsen (on the north side of town).
- Akiyama Nespa Hot Springs (on the way to Yamanashi).
- Yamanami Onsen (In Fujino itself).
