Gołuchów is a small historic village in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, located about 15 km east of Kalisz. Though modest in size, it is one of the most picturesque destinations in western Poland, known for its romantic castle, landscaped park, and tranquil countryside setting.

[edit | edit source]Gołuchów’s history stretches back to the medieval period, but it rose to prominence in the 19th century under the ownership of Izabela Czartoryska. A passionate collector and patron of the arts, she transformed the local castle into a museum and filled it with valuable artworks, antiques, and historical objects, many of which remain today.
The village is especially renowned for its beautifully preserved estate, combining aristocratic architecture with one of the finest English-style landscape parks in Poland.

- By car: From Kalisz, follow local roads east (about 20 minutes).
- By train: The nearest major station is in Kalisz; from there, take a taxi or local bus.
- By bus: Regional buses connect Gołuchów with nearby towns, though services can be limited.

[edit | edit source]- 1 Gołuchów Castle. A fairy-tale Renaissance château inspired by the French Loire Valley, the castle was extensively rebuilt in the 19th century. Its elegant towers, arcaded courtyard, and richly decorated interiors reflect aristocratic tastes of the era. Inside, visitors can see collections of paintings, sculptures, antique furniture, and decorative arts assembled by Izabela Czartoryska.

[edit | edit source]- 1 Gołuchów Tourism and Sport Centre (Gołuchowski Ośrodek Turystyki i Sportu). Campsite with pitches for tents and caravans. Also has 45 cottages which each sleep between 3 and 8. The site is set in a park with forest, a rope park and a lake. Pedal boats and kayaks available for hire. Open May-Sep.
