Granvin is a former municipality in Hardanger. Granvin stretches along both sides of the Granvin Fjord (a small arm off of the main Hardangerfjorden) and the valley extending inland from the end of the fjord, in the region of Hardanger

The area is now part of Voss Municipality in the traditional district of Hardanger in Vestland county. In 2019, it was home to fewer than 1,000 people.
The large lake Granvinsvatnet sits in the centre of the valley, just north of the village of Eide. On both sides of the fjord and valley, there are high mountains. Espeland Falls are found in the Espelandsdalen valley near the border with Ulvik Municipality.
Granvin is a major setting in Moe Cidaly's short story "Summer Episode".
Get in
[edit | edit source]National Road 13 enters Granvin via the Tunsberg Tunnel, which runs through the high mountains to the northwest. The highway then runs through Granvin before entering the Vallavik Tunnel, which goes through the high mountains to the southeast. The Vallavik Tunnel connects with the Hardanger Bridge in Ulvik Municipality, which crosses the Hardangerfjorden.
A car ferry service connects Kvanndal (in southwest Granvin) with the villages of Utne and Kinsarvik (in Ullensvang Municipality) on the south side of the Hardangerfjord.

[edit | edit source]- 1 Hardanger bridge, Between Vallavik and Bu (Road 7 and 13). One of the longest suspension bridges in the world (longer than Golden Gate bridge in California), the longest two-lane suspension bridge. Towers are more than 200 meters high. Fascinating tunnel system connects the bridge to the roads on either side. Impressive engineering. Excellent view from the bridge, 60 meters above the water. Free for pedestrians. kr 150 (cars), kr 600 over 3500 kg.
- 2 Skjervet waterfall (Skjervesfossen), Skjervesvegen, Granvin (when driving between Granvin and Voss in the summer, you can drive the old road Skjervesvegen through Skjervet instead of the new tunnel). 24 hr. It's a steep valley with hairpin bends and waterfall. At the top, you are able to park the car and enjoy the view. Free.
