Hailuoto lies off Oulu. From there, drive south and then west through Oulunsalo. From the south along Highway 8 (E8) or Highway 4 (E75), turn to Oulunsalo and Hailuoto already in Kempele.

A fixed road link from the mainland, composed of a causeway and two bridges, was opened in 2026, replacing the former ferry and ice road services.

There is limited parking capacity on the island.

By bus

[edit | edit source]

You can reach Hailuoto by Oulu PTA's bus number 59 from Oulu. There are a couple of buses a day to the island (and along the main road?).
