Honavar (also spelled Honnavar) is a port town on the coast of Arabian Sea in Uttara Kannada district of Karavali region of Karnataka. Sharavathi river flows through this town and joins the Arabian Sea. Konkan Railway's longest bridge, which is about 2km long, also runs through this town.

[edit | edit source]- 1 Apsarakonda (Apsarakonda Falls) (8km from Honavar town towards Manki). At Apsarakonda, one can get nice view of Arabian sea and beach from hilltop. There's also a small waterfall, garden and temple at this place. Can be visited enroute to Murudeshwar and Gokarna.
- 2 ECO beach, Kasarkod. The beach is about 2km from Honavar and about 5km long on the coast of Arabian Sea.
- 3 Basavaraja Durga Island (The island can be reached by boat from Honavar). This fortified island is 4km from Honavar. It has a total area of 19 hectares and an elevation of 45 to 50m and a temple was constructed by the ruler between the 16th and 17th century.
- 4 Idagunji Maha Ganapati Temple. Idagunji Devasthana is an ancient temple with a history of more than 1,500 years.

[edit | edit source]- 1 Sharavathi Backwater Boating (Honnavar Backwater Boat Cruise), Kasarkod Boat Jetty (Near Kasarkod Eco Beach and Sharavathi estuary). 08:00–18:00. Motorboat and shikara-style boat rides through the pristine Sharavathi river backwaters and tidal creeks. Popular routes navigate through lush mangrove forests, under the historic railway and road bridges, and around Mavinkurve and other river islands towards the Arabian Sea confluence. Sunset boat rides offer spectacular coastal photography. ₹400–1500 per boat trip.
- 2 Kandla Mangrove Boardwalk (Mangrove Nature Trail), Kasarkod / Pavinakurve (Near NH 66 bridge approach). 09:00–18:00. Elevated wooden timber boardwalk constructed over the sensitive tidal mangrove marsh. Visitors can walk amidst mature mangrove roots (Rhizophora and Avicennia) while spotting kingfishers, mudskippers, and migratory shorebirds. Nominal entry fee.
- 3 Kasarkod Blue Flag Eco Beach Walk, Kasarkod Beach Road (1.2 km from Pragati Nagar). 06:00–19:00. Stroll along the 5-km stretch of clean golden sands. Awarded the international Blue Flag certification for eco-tourism standards, featuring solar-powered energy, children's park, purified drinking water, shower facilities, and lifeguard stations. Free.
