Understand
[edit | edit source]Iguig was established by the Spanish in 1610 along the banks of the Cagayan River. It is primarily an agricultural town, with additional income coming from Roman Catholic pilgrims who visit the town's multiple religious sites, namely Saint James parish, a Spanish era church; Calvary Hills, a replica of the crucifixion site of Jesus Christ; and Poor Clare Monastery. The town is slowly being subjected to urbanization from neighboring Tuguegarao.
