Jirapa

Jirapa is the capital of the Jirapa Municipal District in the Ghanaian Northern Plains. It is around the border of Lawra and Nadoli districts. It has two main seasons; the dry season and the rainy season. The people are farmers and the farmer products like millet, maize rice and many more. Apart from farm products the they also rarely animals. Such as goats, sheep hens.

From Wa to Jirapa covers about 68 to 70 km along the main Wa-Jirapa road. It can take you 1 to 2 hours depending on the kind of car ones takes. You go with a commercial transport or a private one. You can also ride on a bike which can also take you roughly 2 hours to get there. On your way to Jirapa you passed town like Kaleo, Sombo, Nadoli before entering Jirapa.

• Yellow-yellows (motorised cycle rickshaws) are mostly used in getting around Jirapa . Getting a Yellow Yellow can cost you GH₵3-5 (as of Aug 2026) depending on the the distance. It is advisable asked of the price before entering any Yellow Yellow. If you you have your own private car or bike it makes getting around Jirapa easy.

• Jirapa Market: the market is on the main street from the roundabout going towards Nandom. The service station is closer to the market. The market is every Sunday. Jirapa is well known for its food. The best food one can get in the market is cake and vegetables popularly known as koosea ne vaare.
