Understand

[edit | edit source]

Kontagora is a major city on the south bank of the Kontagora River. It is the capital of the Emirate of Kontagora. Kontagora is an important commercial and agricultural centre in western Niger State. Kontagora lies in the savanna region of north-central Nigeria. The surrounding area is largely agricultural, with farming and livestock keeping providing important sources of income.

The city serves as a trading centre for agricultural products from surrounding communities. Crops commonly grown in the area include maize, millet, sorghum, rice, groundnuts and cassava.

Kontagora is also an important transport centre because roads connect it with other parts of Niger State and neighbouring states.
