Kumba is a town in Southwestern Coastal Cameroon and the administrative capital of Meme Division. It is one of the major commercial centers in the English-speaking part of Cameroon and an important trading and transport hub linking key agricultural areas with the rest of the country and Nigeria. It has two main markets: Kumba Market and Fiango Market and popularly known as The Green City or K-town.
Understand
[edit | edit source]Kumba is the largest urban center in the Meme Division and is administered as a City Council comprising three sub-divisional councils:Kumba I, II and III.These councils cover the principal urban areas of Kumba including Kumba Town, Fiango, Kossala, Hausa Quarters and Mambanda. Kumba's history predates the colonial period, with the settlement traditionally associated with the Bafaw hunter Mediki-Ukeh who is said to have discovered the site and its reliable water supply. The name Kumba is associated with the Ekumba/Bakumbè tree, which was reportedly abundant in the area. The city later developed into an important colonial-era commercial and administrative center influenced greatly by agriculture, road development, migration and trade. The town is culturally diversed with Bafaw, Balong, Bakundu and Barombi communities from the Southwest living together with a multitude from other parts fo Cameroon and neighbouring countries.

- Twin Manengouba Lakes (Muanenguba Twin Lakes), on Mount Manengouba (2 1/2-hour drive northwest on the N16). These are a pair of caldera lakes, about 2,000 m above sea level, in the Manengouba volcanic massif. They consist of the Male Lake, whose water appears green, and the Female Lake, which has a deep blue hue. Surrounded by forests and hills, the lakes are not only natural wonders but also hold strong cultural and spiritual significance for the local Bakossi and Mbo peoples. Mount Manengouba is extinct, so there is no risk of a volcanic eruption. Guided camping is available near the lakes, and there are rare plants and birds to view. Pack warm clothing, rain protection, and drinking water. Weather can change quickly. Also, mobile signal can be weak in the mountains. A local SIM card (MTN or Orange) is recommended.
