Labo

Labo is a municipality in Camarines Norte, Philippines, known for its rich agricultural heritage, scenic mountains, waterfalls, and the Busig-on River. Its culture and natural resources are celebrated through local festivals, particularly the Busig-on Festival, reflecting the creativity, traditions, and warm hospitality of the Laboeños.

The town traces its roots to an early settlement traditionally known as Busog-on, which flourished around its rivers and fertile lands. Local history tells of the community being led by Tarik-Kudook, a local chieftain.

The municipality's name, Labo, is traditionally associated with a story from the Spanish period involving a missionary who asked about the name of the place. A local boatman reportedly answered, “Labo po ng tubig,” referring to the unclear or muddy river water. The name eventually became associated with the settlement.

Labo was formally established as a municipality on September 8, 1800. Over the years, it developed as an agricultural and resource-rich community, benefiting from its extensive forests, rivers, fertile lands, and mineral deposits.

Today, Labo is one of the largest municipalities in Camarines Norte, known for its rich natural resources, majestic mountains, rivers, waterfalls, agricultural landscapes, and vibrant cultural traditions. Its history reflects the enduring connection between its people, land, water, and community—heritage that continues to shape Labo's identity and future.

The town is accessible by bus from Manila, Daet, and other major cities via the Maharlika Highway, with buses bound for Daet stopping in Labo.

Labo, Camarines Norte is accessible via the Maharlika Highway (AH26), approximately 16 kilometers from Daet and about 326 kilometers from Manila.

By plane, fly to Naga Airport (WNP ^IATA) in Pili, Camarines Sur, the nearest airport with scheduled flights, then continue by land to Labo, Camarines Norte.

Jeepneys and tricycles are abundant in downtown. They can take you to the outlying barangays.

5. Hagdang Bato (historic site in Labo, Camarines Norte, once serving as a port where merchants came to trade their goods. It is also believed to be the resting place of the “Kampanang Bato,” a stone bell said to have been sunk in the Labo River during the Spanish period.)
6. Battle of Tigbinan Shrine (commemorates the historic World War II battle fought from December 17–23, 1941. Filipino soldiers, USAFFE forces, and local guerrillas bravely resisted the advancing Japanese forces, delaying their advance into Southern Luzon. The shrine honors their courage, sacrifice, and role in Labo’s wartime history.)
7. Labo Central Terminal (the main transportation hub in Labo, Camarines Norte, serving passengers traveling by buses, vans, jeepneys, and other public vehicles to nearby towns and cities.
