Les Arcs
Les Arcs is a ski resort in Savoie, France. Les Arcs includes the resort villages of Arc 1600, Arc 1800, Arc 1950, Arc 2000, Peisey and Villaroger. It is linked to the La Plagne ski area by the Vanoise Express cable car.
Get in
[edit]The resort can be reached by a funicular train from Bourg-Saint-Maurice SNCF station, taking approximately 7 minutes. The funicular station and ticket office are at the far end of the platforms, away from the main station building and bus station. However on major transfer days there is a free shuttle bus from the station entrance to the funicular.
Alternatively there are local buses from Bourg St Maurice and the major transport hubs in the area (Geneva, Grenoble and Chambery).
Car parking is available at the funicular base station (paid) and Arc 1600 (free). Parking is available at Arc 1950 and Arc 2000 but is very expensive unless included with your accommodation.
Get around
[edit]Throughout the day during the main winter and summer seasons the major villages (notably Arc 2000, Arc 1950, Arc 1600 and Arc 1800) are linked by free shuttle buses.
The funicular from Bourg St Maurice arrives into Arc 1600.
See
[edit]Aguille Rouge (3227m) is the highest point of the resort accessible by cable car. Pedestrian access is possible using the Varet and Aguille Rouge gondola lifts. There are no toilets or other facilities at Aguille Rouge but there is a restaurant at the top of the Varet gondola. A good view of Mont Blanc can be seen on a clear day.
Do
[edit]Buy
[edit]Everything in resort is expensive. If you need provisions, consider a trip down to Bourg-Saint-Maurice using the funicular railway (free with a ski pass) where you can find a Lidl supermarket or Super-U/Intermaché with a 1km walk.
Eat
[edit]As you would expect with a ski resort, expensive restaurants are readily available. Arc 1950 has a Carrefour minimarket where more affordable food and drink is available.
Drink
[edit]Sleep
[edit]Connect
[edit]Mobile cellular networks are available throughout the resort, though the signal is not always good everywhere and congestion can be an issue. Networks have 4G services.
