Understand

[edit | edit source]

Madagali is one of the oldest towns in northern Adamawa. Long ago, people from the Marghi and Higi (Kamwe) tribes settled in the area because of its rich soil and water from nearby streams. They built small farming villages that later grew into the town known today as Madagali.

The town became an important trade point between Nigeria and Cameroon, where farmers and traders exchanged goods such as grains, livestock, and handmade items.

During the colonial period, Madagali was under the Old Adamawa Province and later became part of Adamawa State when Nigeria created new states.

In the early 2020, the town faced insecurity that affected daily life, but peace is returning. Many people have gone back to their farms and reopened local markets. Today, Madagali continues to grow as a peaceful farming and trading community.
