Magsingal (pronounced as “Magsing-gal”) is a coastal town in Ilocos Sur.
Understand
[edit | edit source]Magsingal is one of the oldest towns in Ilocos Sur, having been founded by the Spanish in 1576.
Get in
[edit | edit source]Magsingal is along Route 2 (Manila North Road). Buses heading to Laoag also ply this highway, with some bus companies operating limited direct services from Metro Manila.
The nearest cruise ship terminal is in Salomague Port in Cabugao, 17 kilometres (11 mi) to the north.
Get around
[edit | edit source]Tricycles are the main form of transportation in town, particularly as downtown Magsingal is further inland from the coast.

[edit | edit source]- 1 Saint William the Hermit Parish Church (Magsingal Church), Manila North Road, San Vicente. Magsingal's main Roman Catholic church, built in a Baroque style during the Spanish period in 1827. It was declared a National Cultural Treasure by the Philippine government in 2001.
- 2 Magsingal Municipal Hall, Manila North Road, San Julian. The seat of local government in Magsingal, built to resemble a Spanish-era government building.
- 3 Magsingal Belfry, Manila North Road, San Vicente. Magsingal Church's belfry predates the actual church building by about 100 years. It also functioned as a watchtower guarding against pirates and foreign invaders. The belfry and the adjoining convent are part of the National Museum-Ilocos Region and was declared a National Cultural Treasure by the Philippine government in 2001.
- 4 Puro Pinget Island. Not really an island but rather a round peninsula connected to mainland Magsingal by the narrow Puro Sandbar. It contains white sand beaches and a large concentration of beach resorts.
