Manaoag is a town in Pangasinan. It is a popular pilgrimage site for Roman Catholics seeking the venerated Marian image of Our Lady of Manaoag.

[edit | edit source]Formally an agricultural town in the middle of the eastern Pangasinan plains, Manaoag’s economy is also sustained by the throngs of pilgrims seeking to see and pray before Our Lady of Manaoag, a 17th-century sculpture of the Virgin Mary that is regarded by believers to be miraculous.
It is home to about 77,000 people (census, 1 July 2024) 
Get in
[edit | edit source]Manaoag is served by the two-lane Binalonan-Mangaldan Road (Route 210), which connects to the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX) and the Manila North Road (Route 2). From Manila, take TPLEX Binalonan exit and turn left towards Laoac and Manaoag.
Manaoag is directly connected by bus from Cubao in Metro Manila. Minivans traveling from Pozorrubio and Binalonan towards Dagupan also pass through Manaoag.
Get around

Much of Manaoag town proper is easily accessed on foot. Just be careful of the traffic though. Elsewhere in the municipality is served by tricycle.

A Spanish-era church that has continuously been significantly expanded and altered over the centuries to accommodate the increasing horde of worshippers wishing to see Our Lady of Manaoag. At the back of the main building is a side-chapel allowing visitors to see the back of the statue up close. There is an extensive candle-lighting area and a small museum featuring vestments and other religious artefacts. Watch out for falling tree branches in the compound.

[edit | edit source]The area around Manaoag Basilica is packed with makeshift stalls and traders selling all kinds of products from religious items, stingray tails (believed to repel evil spirits), and vegetables. The basilica also operates its own souvenir stores.
