Mooresville

Mooresville, North Carolina is located 20 minutes north of uptown Charlotte, and is also known as "Race City, USA." Mooresville is home to a multitude of NASCAR race shops, as well as home to some of NASCAR's elite drivers.

Mooresville is best known as the home of many NASCAR racing teams and drivers, along with an IndyCar team and its drivers, as well as racing technology suppliers, which has earned the town the nickname "Race City USA". Also located in Mooresville is the corporate headquarters of Lowe's Corporation and Universal Technical Institute's NASCAR Technical Institute.

The area that would develop into the town of Mooresville was originally settled by English, German, and Scots-Irish families who moved into the area from nearby Rowan County, as well as from Virginia, Pennsylvania, and elsewhere.

Many of these families established large farms, primarily of cotton, which grew into small plantations by the 1850s. Major Rufus Reid was the most prominent planter in the area, enslaving 81 African Americans on over 2,000 acres (810 ha) of land. His property was known as Mount Mourne Plantation, named after the Mourne Mountains of County Down in Northern Ireland.

I-77 is the major interstate highway that goes through Mooresville, running north-south. NC-150, 152, and 3 are other options to consider if coming in from other area towns.

• Visit race shops. Shops to visit include Dale Earnhardt Incorporated (DEI) on Coddle Creek Hwy. (aka. Dale Earnhardt Hwy.), Robert Yates Racing, Penske Racing, and Roush Racing. Nearby towns are the location of the race shops of Evernham Motorsports, Richard Childress Racing, and Hendrick Motorsports. At each shop, visitors have the opportunity to view displays, videos, and actual race cars, while also being able to browse through the gift shop.
