Understand

[edit | edit source]

The area around Most (the name means "Bridge") has been populated since the 11th century. In the 19th century, large deposits of brown coal were discovered in the area. In 1870, a train connection to this city was opened. Between 1938 and 1945, it was, as part of Sudetenland, annexed by Germany. In the 1960s, the old city was demolished due to expansion of mining, and its Gothic church was moved to a different location.
