Namatanai is a city in the New Ireland province of Papua New Guinea.
Understand
[edit | edit source]Namatanai is the second largest town in New Ireland province and is connected to the provincial capital of Kavieng by the Boluminski Highway. In 2011, Namantanai was estimated to have a population of 1500. During the days of German rule of New Guinea, Namatanai was an important station.
Get in
[edit | edit source]Although Namatanai has an airport it does not receive scheduled services. The main way to reach the town is by road from Kavieng. For a more complex option, there are occasional scheduled flights to the gold mine island of Lihir, from where you can find a boat to take you to Namatanai.
- The Boluminski Highway connects Kavieng with Namatanai. It is sealed for much of the way and closer to Namatanai it has a crushed white coral road surface.
