Driving to New River Gorge from the north takes you through Summersville, WV which is a known “speed trap town” looking to ticket out of state drivers going any amount over the speed limit. Summersville is not the only town in the area known for this, so make sure to watch your speed! The area is marked by a rapid drop from 65 to 50 mph on route 19, but signage will help you identify when you’re getting close.
